Workshopping the Appeal Letter

Class size is limited to 8.

Do you need inspiration to write this year’s appeal letter? Do you know who you are writing to and how to motivate them to give? Would you like some fresh eyes on your writing to help make it stronger?

This workshop covers the basics of appeal writing and will help novice fundraisers strengthen their copywriting skills and compose clear, bold appeal letters that emotionally connect with donors. In a small group format, we will engage in group discussion and writing exercises designed to help you:

  • Identify and feel connected to your audience of prospective donors
  • Tap into your organization’s core values and translate them into an emotional response in your readers
  • Write fearlessly – find the big bold words that express your organization’s vision
  • Write simply – craft copy that is short, clear and easy for your audience to read.

Participants will have the opportunity to work on their current appeal letter and get feedback from the group. Please bring:

  • Copies of the appeal letter, either last year’s letter or this year’s draft, that you want to workshop
  • Notebook and pen for writing exercises .

Individual Feedback Sessions: After you integrate the principles from the workshop, Jenni will be available to give feedback on your next draft. Information about how to sign-up for this follow-up and feedback will be provided at the workshop. ($25)
